YURR, Habgoblins! I’ve got some exciting news to share with you all, if you haven’t heard already. Let’s get into it and what’s coming for the Habtoons Brand.

I’M YOUTUBE PARTNER!

I can’t believe it but I’ve finally reached YouTube Partner Status. I’ve been waiting on this moment for such a long time and all it took was a passionate video essay “review” of an animated series. This has given me a major boost in confidence, affirming that I am on the right track and reaching the right audiences. At the time of writing this, I’m sitting around 1,300 Subscribers! If you’re one of that 1300 (which I’m sure you are), I want to thank you from the deepest parts of my soul for helping reach this moment! And, it’s only up from here!

If you were able to clock my time on YouTube, I’m sure I’ve got an entire lifetime worth of Watch Hours on there. Haha. I love YouTube and I think it’s the best platform out there for myself and creators like me. I can’t wait to dive deeper into the new features available to me, especially now that channel is monetized. Speaking of, we’ve got YouTube Memberships now too. I’m calling it The Habgoblin Social Club. You can check read more details about it here.

LEAVING TWICH

That being said, I’ve decided to leave Twitch. As I’ve stated in previous blogs and videos, I am no longer going to participate in platforms that aren’t serving me personally and as an Artist. Twitch was a wonderful experience during the COVID-19 Lockdown. I met so many incredible people and the channel was doing pretty decent for a while! Unfortunately, overtime, a lot of the growth and community fizzled out. There aren’t many people that interest me on that platform anymore, either. It’s been stagnant. And, with YouTube consistently growing, I’d rather pour my focus into just once place that allows me to have a more enriched experience as both creator and consumer.

The habohtv page will still be up, and I may use it from time to time, but for the foreseeable future, all streams will be on YouTube.

STREAM AND CONTENT SCHEDULE

Departing from Twitch to do YouTube full-time will bring some changes to how the schedule is set up. As of right now, we’re still sticking with Tuesday-Friday @12PM EST. So don’t worry about that. Going forward, all broadcasts will take place on YouTube. That means the Art x Gaming Streams, Pop-up Streams, and everything in between will be solely on YouTube.

I’m still figuring out logistics for music and some other background maintenance but starting this coming Tuesday, May 14th, we’ll be on YouTube for the good vibes. New Videos will continue to be uploaded every Friday, with a longer video essay out once a month. Shorts will be once a week on Tuesdays. As the channel grows and the $$$ flows in, I’ll expand the on the frequency of uploads and potentially livestreams. And, as we gain more Habgoblin Social Club Members (Channel Members), I will also expand into Members-Only videos, streams, and posts as well.

PHASE 5 & THE RETURN OF STREAMS // A NEW ROAD OPENS /  by Hab Oh

HABGOBLINS! It’s been a minute BUT I had to take some time to readjust some things in both my professional and personal life. Don’t worry, things are moving forward in the best possible way right now.

LIVE STREAMING RETURNS

I’ve really missed getting on Twitch and YouTube to hang with y’all. Like I said in the last blog update, I just needed some time to think on how streaming would serve me and the Habtoons Brand. So, I’m happy to announce that HAB OH LIVE returns on April 30th!

Livestreams will take place Tuesdays through Friday @ 12PM EST. Art x Gaming is coming to Twitch a new concept where I’ll be drawing art in the first half of the stream related to whatever game I decide to play in the second half. A more casual experience that will allow me to work on art outside of the Unit 333 Project. There will occasionally be Request Streams where you can ask me to draw whatever you want (within reason) using Twitch’s Bits system. On YouTube’s end, Drawing Sessions will continue but will be reduced to one stream per week. This will still serve as project streams, working on specific illustrations for the Unit 333 Project or any future work I’d like to share the creation process of.

Livestreams can extend past 3 hours. Depending on my mood or audience vibes, I will stream for extended hours. This would be a benefit to the late afternoon and evening crowds. Weekends will still be off limits unless otherwise specified.

Livestreams will broadcast via Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok respectively. TikTok will be used to multistream when I’m on either Twitch or YouTube but YouTube and Twitch will never be live at the same time.

YOUTUBE VIDEO SCHEDULE

Here is the current YouTube Schedule for April to May 2024. You can expect a new video up once per week, every Friday @ 11AM EST. YouTube Shorts will be uploaded every Tuesday @ 9AM EST. Depending on any hot topics, news, or inspiration that hits me, you can also expect an additional video to pop up anytime during the work week @ 11AM EST.

I’ll be leaning more into the video essayist side of YouTube going forward. This will still include gaming and art but with polished scripts and editing. I’m most likely will refrain from doing anymore “Let’s Play” style videos going forward. You can expect the topics I cover to always center some form of art and any political/social themes surrounding it. ALSO: These aren’t the official titles of the upcoming videos, just placeholder names while I think of something catchier.

HABTOONS PHASE 5

I announced Phase 5 a while back and we’re not entering deeper into this new paradigm set before us. If you’ve been keeping up with me on social media, you know I’ve been moving things around to better suit my needs and desires. I no longer use (or have) Facebook or Twitter. The only social media apps I use now are: TikTok, Instagram, Threads, and Discord (if you count it as social media); with TikTok being my main platform.

This newfound “freedom” has given me room to explore new concepts and ideas not just for my art but how I want to present it online; and how I specifically want to approach these apps without burning myself out. There’s a schedule there too. Everything has a schedule now. That’s the secret sauce.

As far as the artwork and projects themselves: Unit 333 is making good progress and if you’re on Patreon (which you should be), you’ve been treated to an array of new illustrations, behind-the-scenes stories, and even a new series under the Unit 333 umbrella. I’m working diligently to make sure I bring you all quality work with this project and, as I’ve mentioned before, have plans to extend that creative process to different artistic mediums.

I find that if you are if you stick solely with one way to create your entire life, you’re not truly an artist. I want to dip my toes into everything I possibly can that makes sense to me. Be it music, film, or more traditional forms of visual arts, I want to expand. There’s already been a few performance/film-like uploads on TikTok to test the waters but now that I’ve adjusted the things I needed to, I can go deeper.

I know this all sounds vague, but I promise further details will be expressed soon. I just wanted to get you all situated for what’s to come. Phase 5 is upon us, we’re in it, and we’re staying here for a while. My purpose as an artist is clearer now and we’re going to have an outstanding time.

UP AND STUCK // NEW PROJECTS INBOUND! /  by Hab Oh

Waddup Habgoblins, we’re in MAY already?! Time is just flying by, and I heard there’s a science to it. Something about our perception of time as we age.

ANYWAY. Happy May! Let’s get into some news and updates.

THE ROAD TO YOUTUBE PARTNER (PART 2)

One of my “Big 3” goals for 2023 is becoming a YouTube Partner. I don’t know why but I feel it in my gut that this is something I need to be doing. Here’s a visual of what I’ve been talking about on nearly every livestream since my return. This is what is required to reach YouTube Partner, enabling me to monetize my channel among other features. We’re SO CLOSE to reaching that 1k Subscriber Goal and as of writing this, the channel is sitting at 694 Subs!

I’m confident I’ll be past 1,000 Subscribers by the fall but the real challenge is obtaining those watch hours. As you can see, these are some incredibly high numbers I need to reach for my Regular Videos OR YouTube Shorts.

This is where YOU, my wonder Habgoblin community, come in. I have an incredibly hard time asking for assistance but in order for this community and my career to blossom, I have to step outside of my comfort zone and try: I’d love to see more of you watching and commenting on my videos. I do appreciate the “lurking” but to get the results I need; the community has to be active.

The first 24 hours of a YouTube Video’s upload are the most crucial, this is when the YouTube Algorithm picks apart every aspect of your upload: watch time, comments, likes, shares, and so on. I’m incredibly grateful for the community members like Cocoqueenie and Kunom who make it their business to share and comment on just about every upload. You may not realize but every little action helps and that was proven when I uploaded that Black Comic-Con Vlog in April.

I know without a shadow of doubt, if we uplift these videos and shorts; the channel will reach Partnership before the year is up! Let’s get this done, Habgoblins!

5 Years Of Introspection

The biggest project I’ve ever put together is turning 5 this year! Unit 333: Introspect was an exhibition and graphic novel that I created to share my mental health story. It was a dark time for me and I was extremely close to leaving this world. Fortunately, I had a great support system and community around me to get me back on my feet to create, as of right now, the highlight of my artistic career.

I love that this story and the exhibition resonated with some many people. To be perfectly honest, it was the first time I truly felt seen and heard in my life.

This year, I want to honor that same community, the same feeling with a brand-new take on the original concept and narrative of Unit 333. So I’m proud to announce that I will be developing a brand-new experience titled Unit 333: Reveries. There’s a lot of planning that needs to be done but now the word is out, and I have to stick to my guns, as the old saying goes. Expect to see more details drop in June.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, for the remainder of May, the Unit 333: Introspect book will be discounted at $7. If you haven’t gotten a copy yet, now’s your chance!

NEW SERIES? OLD SERIES? EVERY SERIES!

DA ART BLOC is making its triumphant return with an all-new look. Season 2 will be pre-recorded, instead of a live show, and will feature a host of new guests, segments, and of course NEW art! More info will be dropping soon. I’m aiming for a Fall 2023 premiere.

But wait, there’s more! Throughout the month of May, you’ll be treated to a NEW live show experience that I call PLAY PARTNAS. Which is a double entendre, if you know…you know! You can actually see the first episode NOW on my YouTube Channel.

What IS Play Partnas? It’s a new live podcast where I sit down with amazing Black Gamer + Content Creators while we play the latest, greatest, and most favorite video games out there. So, similar to Da Art Bloc but more high energy and possibly a bit of yelling, haha! Episode 2 ft ZombaeKillz is happening THIS THURSDAY and we’ll be playing the zombie infested-indie darling, State of Decay 2. You won’t want to miss this!

EVEN MORE STUFF GOING ON!

The Habgoblins are here! I’ve been plotting to push them more into the spotlight and it’s fun getting into monster creation. I wonder if this is how Ken Sugimori felt when creating the first 150 Pokemon. This little dude here is FAKE BEBE aka THE IMPOBLIN. He was literally created during yesterday morning’s art stream and lowkey was a collab between myself and chat; specifically Cocoqueenie. She came up with the name and we created this whole backstory that it’s obviously not a real Habgoblin. We don’t know what the creature inside the suit is BUT it seems to always want to be included in Habgoblin activities. Guess we’ll just have to catch ‘em in the wild to learn more.

I’m also going to be taking time this month to revamp the Habtoons Patreon, as I absolutely want that to shine bright. If you are a Patreon, I’ve appreciated your support for all this time and I promise you, you will be VERY pleased with all I’ve got planned for this Patreon Revamp. Stay tuned!

There are a few other things going on BUT I don’t wanna jinx them just yet. It’s looking like its going to be a pretty decent 2023.

NEW OFFICE SETUP // IT'S HABTOONS 4.0! /  by Hab Oh

This week has been incredibly pleasant in the land of Habtoons. From silly cartoon tier list videos to recapping the most amazing BLACK comic book convention, confessing my love to Halle Berry, and even dippin my toes into the word of Virtual Reality. It’s a good time to be a Habgoblin!

LET ME UPGRADE YA!

Earlier in the week, my best homie from cali, Bomaye hit me up with info on an amazing deal on a incredible pre-built Lenovo PC. I was skeptical at first but after watching several videos and reading a few dozen reviews, I was ready to take the plunge and make this heavily discounted investment.

Let me tell you. This was the GREATEST decision of my career.

If you’ve never been to my Livestreams or just don’t know, I’ve been streaming and creating art/content on an expensive Dell laptop that was ONLY meant for 4k Video Editing. However, because I’m always trying to do too much, I turned it into a Frankenstein workstation that would: stream, edit video, play games, make art, host live talk shows, and more. Suffice it to say, I wore that poor Dell out!

Now that I have this Lenovo PC, so much has changed in literally the span of a day. I’m able to not only utilize the apps and programs I’ve been using at maximum efficiency (no more laggy art streams) but step further into spaces I couldn’t even have dreamed of.

We’re talking things like VIRTUAL REALITY.

Yes. In addition to the Lenovo PC Sale, Best Buy was also running a promo on the Meta Quest 2. After years of going back and forth on whether I needed this or not, I finally decided to pull the trigger. I spent most of Tuesday/Wednesday figuring this thing out and I feel like I’m in a scifi movie, this tech is astonishing and I can’t WAIT to share what I’ve got in store. I’m already looking at apps like KingSpray, TiltBrush, and Gravity Sketch for art making.

Best believe we’ll be having VR Streams soon.

THE ROAD TO YOUTUBE PARTNER

Y’all did it! This video went NUTS on the channel, beyond what I initially expected. The community jumped up by 20+ Subs and pushed us ever close to our goal of 1,000 YouTube Subscribers. We’re now sitting at 682/1000, insane!

It’s all thanks to the support from YOU, the Habgoblin Community. I’m feeling frisky, let’s get this video to 500 views by May 1st! We reach that and I’ll do something special for us all.

PATREON UPDATE IN PROGRESS

With new community members and equipment in tow, it’s time for a Patreon Refresh. While I’ve been more active than usual, I believe I can provide more value for y’all.
